Located in the Ariake neighbourhood of Koto Ward, Tokyo Big Sight is Japan’s number one convention center and trade show venue. With a floor area of 230,000 square meters, it is more than 50% larger that its nearest competitor in Japan. As such, it’s the only convention center in Japan that ranks among the biggest convention centers in the world.
Constructed in 1996, the distinctive venue is divided into a conference/convention center which occupies the upper parts of the structure with two exhibition halls – East and West occupying the area underneath.
Although the address is officially in Koto ward, the large peninsula of reclaimed land in Tokyo Bay on which it is located is known as Odaiba. Access is convenient from central Tokyo – you can take either the Yurikamome Line (light rail) from Shimbashi Station or the Rinkai Line from Ōsaki Station to Kokusaitenjijoseimon or Kokusai-Tenjijō Stations respectively.
Compared to Makuhari Messe, Tokyo Big Sight also very conveniently located for attendees. If you’re coming from Narita Airport, it’s not as convenient as Makuhari Messe. Your best advice is to catch the train or bus into central Tokyo and then take either the Yurikamome or the Rinkai Line to the venue.
Major events at Tokyo Big Sight include the Tokyo Motor Show in October/November, Comiket at the end of December and again in August and the Tokyo Gift Show.
