Best Japan Events Preview for January 2015

The first month of the year of the sheep kicks off slowly as businesses generally drift back to work from around the 6th or 7th. After that brief lull, things roar into action with major events of interest happening throughout January. Here are the events we are picking as some of the highlights.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2015 with NAPAC

Makuhari Messe, January 10th and 11th

If custom cars are your thing, then Tokyo Auto Salon should get you well and truly excited. Tickets for the three day event (day 1 on the 9th is an industry only day) cost 2,300yen if you roll up on the day or 1,800yen if you register in advance.

Design Lighting Tokyo

Tokyo Big Sight, January 14th to 16th

The Design Lighting Tokyo expo will showcase design lighting that “enriches the atmosphere”. Anyone familiar with Japan will be familiar with the amazing transformation of places at night compared to daytime, so if you’re involved in design, architecture or building then there might be something of interest for you here.

Organised under the Automotive World 2015 umbrella, this electric vehicle technology expo showcases the best in electrical vehicle technologies including motors, inverters, rechargeable batteries, and chargers.

Tokyo Big Sight, January 14th – 16th

The wearables market is set to explode over the next few years, so this is sure to be a well attended event. On display will be anything you can stick on or into your body, including smart glasses, smart watches, powered exoskeletons and healthcare devices.

JFW International Fashion Fair (JFW-IFF)

Tokyo Big Sight, Jan 21st – 23rd

Fashion is a huge industry in Japan and the 600 exhibitors at this trade show reflect this. Additionally, 23,000 visitors are expected. Among them will be influential retail buyers. For this reason, this show attracts a large number of international exhibitors looking to break the lucrative Japanese market.

This multi-pronged event looks to be setting itself up as a rival to AdTech Tokyo. The event also includes eCommerce Expo 2015 and the Online Advertising & Affiliate EXPO under it’s wide brimmed umbrella.

Japan Fishing Show 2015

Pacifico Yokohama, Jan 30th – Feb 1st

Japanese companies produce some of the best fishing gear around – from rods to reels to lures, they feature both high technology and precision engineering. The Japan Fishing Show brings all the related manufacturers and tour operators together in Yokohama for a 2 day event with 50,000 visitors expected. Admission is 1,300yen on the day or 1,100 if you buy in advance.
